SAVAGE
I am a dirty vessle for all debris, large and small
to dock and wait awhile dreaming of figs and honey
sullying my once unbroken shore
with the litter and misery of their humanity
like bottles tied on string
making music to the sound of crying
as he lifts his hips to violate
that which I held dear
as fragile as broken cobwebs
the dreams of yester-year
i am the court jester, the clown
i am Humiliation's crown
the dirt on my hands tells a story
my thighs wet and gory
all the boats know their journey has just begun
and leave the islands one by one
dark faces out of night hold candles and wave
unseen
their bellies bloated like mine with man's fetal
greese.

I know your movements as my own
a shadow, a brightness, a tell-tale memoir
eclipsing the sun, bemusing the birds
falling from the trees like splinters on our spilt blood
our dance around in heavy gypsy skirts
and lowered eyes painted black and unseeing
is as slow as the hesistant beating of midnights
heart
rising out of the clouds like a spanish virgin
I know your movements as my own
where saffron grows thick and yellow on memory
obscuring the white rays of midday sun that
relentless
try to bleach our history to muted chalk.
